A new virus records people who visit pornographic sites to blackmail them. Each time the Internet becomes more complicated to control (if it could be done at some point), this is reflected very well in some Black Mirror episodes.
One of the BM episodes was one called ‘Just Shut Up And Dance’, where a boy was recorded while watching pornography. This became a reality with a new virus that ends your ‘good reputation’.
A new virus was discovered by the cybersecurity company ESET, who pointed out that the malware is activated when you visit a pornography site, there it begins to record everything your device’s camera sees.
The malware is called Varenyky, send emails to your system with a Word file and if you open it it will start sending you extortion messages as spam, requesting 500 euros to a PayPal account to not disclose the content.
This virus installs a file on your system that allows you to control from browsers to your webcam, becoming a danger to your security. It even takes screenshots which becomes problematic if you have sensitive information such as bank accounts or passwords in it.
How to prevent the Varenyky virus from infecting my computer?
So far, the company recommends not opening any strange mail or allowing the download of files that may seem dangerous. Also, be careful of the sites you visit on the internet and if you don’t trust one, don’t download anything.
What do you think of this virus? You should be careful with the sites you visit.
